Exodus Week 2

Key Scripture
Exodus 3:11-12

Context
The Lord appears to Moses in the form of a burning bush. There is an awesome moment where God tells Moses to take his sandals off, because the place he is standing is holy ground. God wants Moses to understand just how powerful and set apart He is, so that Moses will have an understanding of the power that is with Him. Next, God sends Moses to Pharoah with a message, “Let God’s people go”. Moses’ response shows a lack of confidence, “Who am I that I should go to Pharoah and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”. While Moses is afraid and feeling a little inadequate, God directs him to find his confidence not in his own ability, but in the fact that God will be with him. Confidence is the feeling that you can rely on or trust something. Moses was looking for confidence within himself and was left feeling like he wasn’t good enough. In this moment, God reminded Moses that the all-powerful Creator of the Universe was with Him. Moses didn’t need to find confidence in himself, He could find confidence in God.

Application
Oftentimes, we try to find confidence in the wrong thing. Our appearance, our abilities, our possessions, and other people’s opinions of us are all examples of things that we look to for a sense of confidence. These things aren’t bad, btu they were never meant to be the source of our confidence because they aren’t stable. At times they make us feel confident, but other times they actually hurt our confidence and leave us feeling not good enough. When God being with us and the fact that He created us is the source of our confidence, we will never lack godly confidence to face life with. Take your confidence out of yourself and put your confidence in God today!

Questions for your student
What things in your life do you look to for confidence? (Hint: What leaves you feeling not good enough when it doesn’t go your way?).

How can you begin to make God the source of your confidence, rather than these other things?

Ask God to help you make Him the source of your confidence. Take some time in prayer and ask God to remind you that He is always with you wherever you go.
