So Close | Week 3
This powerful message confronts us with one of the most unsettling truths in Scripture: it's possible to be so close to Jesus and yet miss salvation entirely. Drawing from Matthew 7:21-23, we're challenged with Jesus's own words that not everyone who calls Him 'Lord' will enter heaven, but only those who do the will of the Father.
The heart of this teaching explores the story of the rich young ruler in Mark 10, a man who did everything right on the surface—he ran after Jesus, knelt before Him, acknowledged His wisdom, and asked the most important question anyone can ask: 'What must I do to inherit eternal life?' Yet when Jesus looked into his heart and asked him to surrender his possessions, the man walked away sorrowful. This isn't primarily a message about money; it's about lordship. What we treasure financially reveals what our hearts truly treasure spiritually.
The rich young ruler made his tools his treasure, and his wealth became the barrier between him and eternal life. We're invited to examine our own lives with brutal honesty: Are we truly known by Jesus, or do we simply know about Him?
