Christian Atheist | Week 2

What does it really mean to call ourselves followers of Christ? This message cuts straight to the heart of that question by exploring the concept of the 'Christian atheist' — someone who says they believe in God but lives as though he does not exist.

Drawing from Jeremiah 7, we are brought to the gates of the temple where the prophet cries out to the people of Israel, warning them that pointing to a building, a tradition, or a religious habit is not the same as having a living relationship with God. The parallel to our own lives is striking: how often do we answer questions about our faith by pointing to church attendance or ministry involvement rather than to the cross itself? The message challenges us to examine whether our trust is genuinely placed in Christ or in the comforting routine of religion.

Just as Israel believed the temple was proof of their standing with God, we can fall into the same trap, mistaking proximity to sacred things for an actual encounter with the living God. The call is clear and urgent — amend our ways, align our lives with what we profess, and return to Christ alone as the foundation of our faith.
